The rifle had not been fired in awhile, so priority was making sure it is safe and reliable. By the barrel stamp, it appears to have been made in 1971. As received, this rifle is in pretty good shape. I did not have to do much to clean it up, it apparently was cleaned and put away whenever it was last fired. The bolt, chamber, and action cleaned up quickly. See added paragraph and video below. I actually worked on this Walther P38 a few weeks ago, just now taking the time to write about it. It turns out this particular P38 was not made by Walther - more on this in the paragraphs below. The client wanted me to inspect this P38 and make it safe to fire, as it has been a safe queen for many years. I did a deep clean and inspection; it looked really good for its age. On the Bench this weekend was a fun little rifle that I have not handled before, a Winchester Model 74 in 22LR. This particular one was built in 1955. The owner had not fired it in awhile, and asked me to inspect it and do a deep clean and oil before...

Welcome to Grumpy Heathen's Gunsmithing 'On the Bench'

Welcome! I plan on using this area of my web site to show off some of the work that I do. It will be mostly firearms, but I may occasional post firearm related news, and some of the other 'hobbies' I do, such as work on my 1971 Mustang Mach 1, motorcycles, bowyer work, travel adventures, etc. I will have a section for reader comments and feedback attached to these posts, once I figure out how to make that happen. As stated elsewhere, I am learning this web development stuff as I go. ...
